Alternatives to zippers in a pair of denim shorts?
Hi - my first question!
I have been refurbishing/reinventing some old clothes and decided to deconstruct some old "mom" jean shorts. The waistband came off without a hitch, but I lost the slider off of the zipper. I don't have access to a sewing machine at the moment and don't feel like putting in a new one anyway. Are there alternatives to zippers that would be just as effective? I was wondering if there is a quiet form of Velcro that might work, but I'm open to any inventive ideas that wouldn't be too time intensive. (For example, don't feel like sewing in snaps or a series of old school hook & eyes.) I hope to get some fun answers.
I'm going to be boring... why not just put a slider back on? Or hand sew a zipper in? It's really not hard.
You haven't got fabric for a button placket; velcro tends to fail under such a use.
